Chapter #3

Going down...

The child kicked the gun out of James hands and smiled wickedly as it prepared to finish him off... only it didn't. It stayed frozen in place for a few moments before its eyes flashed with a blinding light that caused James to instintively cover his own eyes to protect them. When the brightness returned to normal he found himself sitting alone onthe cold floor with his gun laying nearby. He wiped the sweat from his brow and left the room wondering why the monster child had left. "It had me at its mercy... and let me go... no, it willingly retreated for some reason, but why...?" He began moving further down the hallway and soon came to a heavily damaged set of stairs. They looked rickety and ill-attached, but there was no way he would risk his neck on the elevator. Sure enough, on his third step the thing began trembling and he was forced to run the rest of the way down, jumping onto the floor just as the stairway collapsed into a pile of metal. James picked himself up and looked at the tangled mess. "Looks like I'm not getting back up anytime soon, guess its a good thing I'm headed further down..."

James looked down the hallway ahead of him to get a good view of his surrounds before moving on. There was a faint siren sounding off in the distance along with what sounded like footsteps. There were also a few open doors and more then a little blood splattered across the walls, but otherwise there was nothing out of the ordinary. Further up ahead to the left was another hallway that probably led to an elevator or possibly a restroom. In any case, it was far too small to be very long or lead anywhere important. "Shit, it looks even worse down here then the last level... I'd better get moving..." With new resolve James began confidently moving down the hallway, only to stop when he heard someone scream. It sounded like a young woman... but James had no way of knowing where she was...
