Whilst you're debating what change to make you hear the front door chimes. Checking your watch you remember your mate Tom was calling around so that you could help fix a problem with his car. Not the best time, but you reckon this wishing oil will still be here when you're finished. First issue is answering the door, and then getting changed into some old clothes as you know full well you're going to get dirty.
You rush to open the door, invite Tom in to wait, and explain that you need to change. Back in your room you look in your closet for your overalls, but the only ones you can find are your old ones which you had almost discarded as they're too tight.
Nearly resorting to putting on a decent pair of jeans (and accepting they could end up ruined) you remember the wishing oil, and wonder if you can do anything with that. Hmm, if it really works then surely you should be able to make your old overalls bigger using the wishing oil. You feel pleased that you hadn't thrown them away.
You pour a few drops of the oil onto your hand. "I wish that my overalls fit me." you say. You cannot see anything happen, and are a bit dubious. Did the wish work? You can't really tell without trying them on... You strip down to your tee and boxers, and pull on the overalls, realizing as you do so that the wish hadn't worked - they are very tight and you can't even pull them all the way up you legs. OK - failed at the first attempt.
You try again. Maybe it's the phrasing. "I wish that the overalls that I am wearing fit me." Still nothing, and they are as tight as before. Then you remember, you need to touch the item you are wishing about with the oil. So you try again... "I wish that I fit the overalls that I am wearing." Now you are aware of a change - the overalls now fit over your shoulders perfectly, and the zip pulls up without the slightest straining.
What you fail to notice is that you made this final wish about yourself, and not the overalls. Instead of the wish changing the overalls to fit you, your body changed to fit the overalls. You are now the perfect fit for the overalls, so the same size that you were at 16.
