Chapter #5

Suffer in solitude

    by: Lightbeat Author IconMail Icon
With a sigh of reluctant defeat, Amy placed the phone back on it's stand and walked back over to the fridge. "Maybe I could just settle for a Cucumber sandwich" she thought. "It's not like I live off of this diet every day after all". She picked up two slices of Bread and the Cucumber stick and placed them on the table. as she retrieved a knife to cut the Cucumber she couldn't help thinking about her decision. "Would Sonic have been understanding enough to help me out? Was I too presumptuous in that regard? Am I just making mountains out of mole hills?" She tried to put these thoughts out of her head as she started to cut the first Cucumber slices. "He'll probably be grateful that I wasn't there to burden him with even more baggage than he currently has".

"Although, that would be just like him; to ignore me in my time of need. I swear sometimes he doesn't even notice the effort I put into helping him and the gang out. I was the one who convinced Shadow to save the planet for crying out loud! Doesn't that warrant at least a-AAARRRRRGH!!!" Amy had been so caught up in her thoughts, she hadn't been paying attention to her slicing and she had cut her index finger. Fortunately her glove had helped to prevent the knife from performing serious injury, but she could still see blood seeping from the hole she had cut. She quickly removed her glove and wrapped a tissue around her wrist, tying it up. "Thank you Uncle Karin" she said, reminiscing on how it was her uncle who taught her how to tie a knot with one hand. With this completed, she promptly took the slices she had chopped and placed them on a bread slice; finishing off with another bread slice on top. Amy beamed at her finished masterpiece... right before she realised that a sandwich wasn't that impressive a dish. She walked over to the window by the couch and sat down to eat her meal; well not really a meal, more like a light snack compared to what she normally had for lunch.

It had only just occurred to Amy at this point that she had forgotten to check the sell by date on the packaging she looked over the questionable delicacy sitting before her in her hands. It seemed healthy enough; the bread wasn't mouldy for sure and the cucumber slices were still juicy. "Ah well." Amy thought to herself "What's a little bit of indigestion compared to starving in your own home." She raised the Sandwich to her mouth and chewed. For what it was worthy, it tasted pretty nice. Not that there was much of a taste to begin with but still, it was better than nothing. Amy savoured each bite for she knew that this would probably be her last meal for the day. With each bite she took, she thought about her situation, her relationship with Sonic, memories gone by, her job as a painter and other things. But mostly, she thought about Sonic. She imagined his slick blue fur blowing in the breeze, his quills dangling off of his head like ornaments on a Christmas tree, his smirk which betrayed his laid-back and cocky attitude. For a second, Amy believed she could feel him right then and there... then she opened her eyes and realised she was stroking the couch. It was a full minute before Amy finally gulped down the last bite of her 'Sandwich'. She rubbed her belly, her hunger satisfied for the time being.
