This choice: Changes between then and now • Go Back...Chapter #5Changes between then and now by: Hermit After wandering for about half a hour, Souta found himself at the site of Inuyasha's exhibition. The crevice created by the display of power looked just as bad now as it did a few month. At least now the canopy made by the surviving trees that lined the scarred earth hid it from at the mountain.
Souta enjoyed admiring the true strength that lay before. But admiration sometimes brought to the surface the few insecurities that he had, even for a boy his age. He was weak, short, and useless. The boy couldn't even the the doorway to the past deep within shrine's well. In his mind, he was a pathetic little brother, unable to help when to help his sis when it mattered.
"I'm glad you don't have a shrimp like me holding you back, sis" he said in defeat. "If I wish was bigger and could open that stupid gate. But who am I kidding, by the time i get big enough, there will be nothing left to help with." Souta pulled his lunchbox out, said a brief grace, and began chowing on his onigiri. He determined to grow quickly, and what better place to start than with the food had with him.
Not long after he ate last speck of rice he could find, Souta noticed how tight shoes felt now. Where as back at the home the tightness was like a slight squeeze, he felt like his feet were being crushed. The boy looked to his shoes and saw how much they were bulging, threatening to burst at any given moment.
Souta work hastily to remove the ill fitting shoes and, in turn, relieve the unbearable pressure he was feeling. Whatever was going on certain wasn't ordinary by any means, but he would have to hold onto the thought as the sun had nearly sunken below the horizon. Running full burst the boy managed to make it home just as the last embers of day faded from the sky. And with even greater speed bounded up the stairs and straight into his room.
Once the door was shut soundly and locked for privacy, Souta examined his shoe. There was nothing wrong with it. It appeared the same as it had always been.
'I wonder.' There was no problem with either shoe, so maybe his own feet were to blame.
Souta sat down on his bed. He took one the shoes and lined the heel up with his foot suffice to say he was shocked at he was looking at. The shoe came nowhere near to matching the length of his foot reaching just below the ball. There was definitely something supernatural going on, but how? Why? indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
