"I'll tell you a secret."
Roberta was just escorting Mark back to his office after a quick tour of the plant.
"OK." Mark said. "Shoot!"
"Well," Roberta began, "It's like this. Corporate has the security covered. They put in security camreras everywhere, wired the whole place for break-ins. It's all on automatic pilot. The control room is back east somewhere."
"So what am I doing here?" Mark asked.
"You're the front. The big serious guy on the ground. So long as you look good, we look good. Just don't try to actually do anything and you'll be fine."
"Just a pretty face?" Mark asked chcukling.
"Something like that, although it's probably better if your face isn't so pretty. You need to look big and tough but in a civilized way, You need to fill up a power suit and make your presence felt. More like a pet doberman."
"Doesn't sound so hard.". mark said. "Why'd the last guy leave?'
Roberta smiled. "He got comfortable- and over confident. When he started, he was a 200 pound retired Navy Seal. Five years later he was probably 400 pounds of blubber. "
"So what happened to him?"
"Poor guy. He was completely oblivious, cried like a baby when he realized how he messed up. They didn't fire him, just changed his position. He's still a Vice-President but instead of getting $200k as VP of Security, he's getting $20k as VP of the executive washroom."
Mark was shicked.
"You mean Tubbs?" he asked.
"The very same. Bet you never guessed him for a Seal."
"So what's your recommendation?"
"Well, it doesn't matter much what you do on the job so long as you stay in shape. I'd stay away from the executive lunch room. I think that's where Tubbs when wrong."
After Roberta left, Mark thought about what she had told him. He still could believe that the fat washroom attendant had been a Navy Seal and held his position. How pathetic. What a loser. He decided not to worry about it because something like that would never happen to him.
