You watched silently as Tonya turned to leave; feeling hurt by the fact that she wasn't comforting you. Seeing that, Mom said, "Don't feel bad, sweetheart; this is something we all have to adjust to."
Sitting up in bed, you said, "I-I thought she'd be here to comfort me."
"She'll come around eventually." Sighing, Mom said, "She just lost her little brother; it's going to be hard for her to accept that."
Looking at you, from the foot of the bed, Dad said, "I guess now we have to figure out a new name for you; can't very well call you Eric anymore."
As much as you wanted to avoid a new name; you knew Dad was right. Pausing to think for a moment, you said, "How about Erin?"
"I like it." Smiling, Mom said, "As a matter of fact; that's what I wanted to call you if you'd been born a girl."
Mom and Dad stayed with you for a while; until you started to get tired. You eventually fell asleep; only to wake up a few hours later to find Tonya sitting at the foot of your bed.
