"I have a confession to make," Jake said as he removed the X-39 from his pocket. "I used this on you earlier today and it turned you into a smoker."
Sarah frowned at Jake and then looked at the cigarette burning between her fingers. "Is that why I suddenly decided to start smoking? I've always hated the smell, but now I like it." She brought the cigarette to her lips and took a deep drag.
"You aren't mad?"
She exhaled directly into his face, making him cough. "I should be. I should take that thing away from you and use it to turn you into a smoker, too. But I don't like being mean to people."
"I'm sorry. I won't use it on you without your permission again."
"You better not. So, what else can it do besides turn people into smokers."
"Lots of things. If you're okay with it, I'd like to try and modify your addiction." Jake taped on the display, pulling up a sub-menu that would allow him to adjust the intensity of the addiction in the device's memory banks. At the moment it was set at a 10.
"If you're sure it's safe, then go ahead."
As Sarah took another drag, Jake adjusted her addition to a 1. She choked on the smoke.
"Eww, that tastes nasty. I remember why I hate cigarettes again."
Before she could toss the cigarette away he quickly adjusted her addition up to 20. She took a massive drag, her cheeks hallowing as she sucked on the cigarette for a solid 5 seconds. Once she removed it from her mouth she breathed in deep and held the smoke in her lungs for another five seconds before finally exhaling.
"Looks like you enjoyed that," Jake said with a smile on his face.
"I fucking love smoking," Sarah said with a sign as she extracted another cigarette from her sister's pack. She lit it with the butt of her first cigarette. "You should try this. You'll love it."
