At first, Seth was gripped with fear. How was he going to explain this sudden growth spurt to his friends, his classmates, his teammates and, worst of all, to his mom? His first thought was to hide his physique as quickly as possible, which he knew would be a losing battle for his mom, who always was extremely suspicious if anything seemed out of the ordinary, especially if this had anything to do with Seth’s diet or his health.
Seth rummaged through his closet and his dresser, and he quickly put on sweatpants and a hoodie, which seemed odd for June, since it was warm outside, But he just didn’t know what else to do other than hide his unexpected muscularity.
It was just in time, too, for he heard a knocking on his door. Seth’s door was hard to open since it wasn’t installed correctly, so he heard a hard push against the wooden door, which shrieked open. His mom’s head peered through the door opening.
“Seth? Sweetie? Don’t you have a soccer game today?” his mom, Julie, asked him. Then she squeezed through the door opening and stepped into the room. “Oh, when are we getting this door fixed? Ohh… Seth, why are you wearing a hoodie? It’s warm outside!”
“I… Umm… It was cold in my room and… Umm…” Seth stammered as his mom looked on with her arms folded before her chest. Seth was a terrible liar, and she knew it when Seth was lying.
“What are you hiding? Did you get a tattoo?”
“NO! No! I swear! I didn’t get a tattoo!” Seth shouted back.
“Okay! Take off the hoodie!” she ordered.
“But mom! It’s cold in here and…”
“Take it off. NOW!” she bellowed at her son.
Seth reluctantly removed his hoodie, revealing his muscular physique in his bedroom in front of his mother for the very first time.
“Wow! What happened to you?” she asked him. “Since when did you start lifting weights?”
“I’m NOT! I never lifted weights in my life!” Seth replied.
“What? So… Are you taking steroids or drugs?” Julie shouted. “Answer me!”
“NO! I swear! I didn’t take anything!”
“Did you eat anything? Drink anything? Did anyone make you take anything at school?” she continued to interrogate him.
“Umm… I had… I drank four cartons of mile the other day… during recess…” Seth shrugged. “And the milk had a weird taste to it!”
“Alright! Let’s take you to the emergency room and have you checked out, just to be sure! Get dressed right now!” his mother ordered.
Julie squeezed through the bedroom door, which was stuck as the bottom edge scraped against the hardwood floor.
“When are we gonna get that door fixed?” she grumbled, as she tried to pull the door shut until the door got stuck again. Finally, she let go and left the door half open.
“Aww, now I need to brush my teeth and get dressed!” Seth mumbled, as he reached out with his thick, muscular arm and grabbed the door handle. With great force, he pulled the door open so hard, that the door flung open all the way and the door handle broke off, allowing small screws, nuts, and bolts to fly and leaving Seth standing there, holding the broken off door handle in his hand. “Oh, no! I don’t know my own strength!”
Seth didn’t even bother fixing the door. He just got ready to leave. He took note of how easily he broke the door handle. Was he really THAT strong? He pondered what it meant to have big muscles. Being muscular was a new thing for him, so he needed to get used to this feeling and his new physique. Was he the strongman in the house? Would he become a bully in school? Was he the powerhouse on the soccer team? His mind flooded with questions as he got ready to meet his mother outside where the car was parked.
His mother took Seth to the hospital where they ended up sitting for over an hour until finally, he was seen by a nurse. There, Seth had to undress and had all his vitals checked. The nurse then called a doctor, who performed a thorough examination. Of course, they found nothing unusual at all. To them, Seth was nothing more than an ordinary preteen who had started working out and who experienced muscular growth. He left there with a clean bill of health, They found nothing wrong with him at all. On the contrary, he was a big, strong, healthy boy with huge muscles!
“I’ll call the school and find out about the milk in the cafeteria. In the meantime, I’ll also call your soccer coach. I don’t want to hear about you spending every soccer practice sitting on the bench! You need to get a chance to play now and then!” Julie explained to Seth. “Especially now that you’ve gained some more muscle, I think the coach can use you on the team. If not, then other sports will gladly take you!”
“Ohh, mom… Please don’t cause so much trouble!” Seth groaned as they drove back to the house after having spent over three hours at the hospital. The poor kid was itching to get out and do something fun.
