Lilly had read the first line with her own name aloud, trying to see if it made more sense that way, but no, nothing. But when she tried to put the book down, it was an odd sensation, as she found herself unable to do so. Holding the book open, to the second page, she panics a little, trying to simply put it down. But she is quite unable to do so, and looks around. The only person there is a clerk, the only store staff visible, behind the counter, so she walks up to him.
"Um, excuse me, I don't know what's going on here, but can you help me? I was looking at this book and well, I can't seem to put it down" He looks up and blinks, then sighs "You read the first page out loud, didn't you? Typical... wait, you're a normie, aren't you? Surprised you even thought to walk in here...must have some latent ability, or a really deep interest, but well, you don't know what's going on, do you?"
Lilly is a little upset, as his tone seems somewhat rude, and what the hell is a normie? But then again, she is so freaked out by the book she can't put down, she swallows her anger and nods "Yeah, I gotta admit, I am clueless what you are talking about, and this book made no sense, and I read the first page aloud, trying to see if it made sense to hear it"
The guy looks at the book and stifles a chuckle "Did you say your own name when you read it aloud? I'm betting you did. Well, then you are stuck..these spell books work on completed spells only, so by starting it you have to finish it. You didn't know the book was magic, hell, probably didn't know magic was real, did you?"
Lilly is now well and truly freaked, but also disbelieving "I'd say you are kidding me, messing with me, but the hell, I can't put the book down, so if this is magic, what do I do?" He sighs "you gotta finish the spell, and with that book, and the fact you said your own name, you have to pick another person, and then, well, no two ways about it, you have to pick something to become for them, and then they will own you"
Lilly's eyes widen and she is about to protest, but the clerk simply taps the sign that says "Beware what you buy" and then he continues "Now, since you are a normie, that is a normal person without the foggiest clue about magic, I am betting all your friends are normies too... if you pick one of them for the name on page two, well, that will be it, whatever you turn into, that will be your form for good, since they won't know what you are, how to turn you back, or even what happened to you."
Lilly is crying a bit now, "Are you kidding me, I read a page of a book outloud and that's it, I have to be some object forever?" The clerk shrugs "No, I mean, well, yes, if you aren't careful, but the people who shop here, they usually know magic, and pick a person who does as well, so that person can choose to turn them back. Like when I own someone, I simply tell the possession to turn back when I am done with them as whatever" Her jaw drops "You've owned people?" He nods "yeah sure, and been owned, I mean, if you like, I can own you, and I promise to turn you back when I'm done with you"
Lilly steps back "Excuse me? You really think I am going to let some guy I just met, own er, me? as well, whatever?" But this guy seems to have no care at all, shrugs "Hey, I mean, I am offerring to help you out...you read someone else's name for page two, a normal person and that's it, nothing to be done but pick your new form forever. This way, you learn a little lesson and wind up back as yourself in a few days"
"DAYS????" Lilly practically shrieks, but he shrugs again and nods "Yeah, if you become a possession, you have to be used a few times before the spell is satisfied. Like this one guy, got his wife to read the spell and turn into a Ferrari for him. He promptly had her, well, it, trailered to his house and put on display, never drove it, never even sat in it. Until he does, she is stuck. Apparently, they had an agreement about it, but seemed a waste to me."
Lilly paces, and looks at him, swallows
