There was no point in running after her, with her strides it was impossible. Besides, he needed a plan. Yelling alone wouldn't get Emily's attention, he was too small to be heard from the ground. He'd have to get to ear level. Easier said than done. He was sure he couldn't climb past her ankles, so she'd have to be laying down. If he had a mirror or something reflective he could try to use it to signal her but that was something he didn't have, and that would only work if she was looking down.
This was going to be a lot harder than he'd first thought.
He listened to the laughter, it didn't seem that far away and he could distinctly hear two voices. If one was Emily, Ash had to assume the other was Little Bear. Bear's have more sensitive ears than humans.
He followed the crater-like footprints for an hours, by the time he arrived there were no more sounds of splashing or laughter. He feared they may have gone off somewhere else and started to regret not running after Emily earlier. However, to his relief, both Emily and her furry friend were still around. Off in the distance he saw them laying side by side under the shade of a tree looking up into the sky and pointing to clouds. He hoped they wouldn't get up before he got there.
