Chapter #8Meet your new (fabulous) mommy by: Absolfusion You were lying in your bed as usual, sullenly staring at the ceiling when the knock came.
The news that you would never go home, will never see your mom and dad again hurt you more than the raking claws of a manticore ever could. A human turning up in the Everfree apparently was a pretty big deal, because it was full of monsters or something like that. And get this. The locals were afraid of the fact that the plants and animals in there took care of themselves and grew all on their own.
When the news got out that you came out of there, the locals weren't the most trusting of folks. In fact, there had been a bit of an uproar that the weird monkey child was going to be sharing a space with their foals. The resentment had mostly quieted down, however, when a certain purple pony and her friends came to your defense. Though you'd still get looks from the townsfolk every now and again.
That left you with your current predicament: you were basically homeless and considered a minor, so you were stuck until some pony came in to adopt you. There weren't too many ponies who were up for giving you a permanent home. The few who were all turned out to be... "unfit" to put it mildly. Weirdly, they were also all invariably single mares. Isn't that weird? They explained to you something about a gender imbalance or something, but you hadn’t really listening. At least the orphanage staff were pretty nice, if a bit standoffish.
Anyway, back to the present.
A sweet sounding female voice pierced through the wooden door. "Anonymous, get up, sweetie. We've got another interview today, so I need you to be up and attem'."
You heard the telltale clopping of hooves as the voice behind the door left, and with a heavy sigh you got up from the bed and shuffled your way to the door. Looks like you were in for another fabulous day in the land of sunshine and rainbows.
The door creaked as you stepped through into the hallway. Around you were already a few staff members walking around doing their business. At the end of the hallway was where the other pony children would sleep. You were a special case so you got a room all to your own, a fact that some of the foals seemed to resent you for. So much for making friends.
Your destination was the interview room, the place where potential adopters would get the chance to make their case for adoption; a place you were all too familiar with.
You nodded as a cleaner looked up and gave you a sympathetic look before you entered the interview room. Sitting at the desk was Sleepy Smile, your case manager. In the other seat was a pony wearing a tasteful black hat with pink trim and bows, but nothing to cover her voluptuous body. She was currently filing her fingernails while waiting for you to enter.
Ms. Smile looked upon you entering and um... smiled. "Anonymous, please do come in and have a seat. I have a special guest here who I'd like you to meet."
You shuffled into the room, dragging your feet, and sat down in the chair next to the mystery pony.
Just as your butt hit the seat the mare said, "Theeeeere. That ought to do it. I wanted to have my finger nails done before coming, but I hadn't realised the appointment would be so dreadfully early, so I rushed."
Ms. Smile tittered. "Well, as long as you look your best..."
The mare turned to face you and gave you a warm smile. "Hello there, darling. I believe we met once before, but I never got to speak to you in full. My name is Rarity." She put out her hand for you to shake.
You didn't take it. Even after all this time, you were still a little apprehensive about these ponies, especially their blatant nudity. Interestingly, she seemed unperturbed by this and withdrew her hand into her naked lap.
"Ms. Rarity has applied to become your new parent, dearie. Isn't that exciting? She has a real reputation for acts of kindness and generosity around these parts, so I feel like you two might be a good fit together."
"Oh darling, you flatter me, but please do go on." Rarity chuckled with a slight blush.
You weren't so sure of it, but Rarity seemed nice enough for you to give her a chance.
Sleepy Smile shuffled the papers on her desk and cleared her throat.
"Now that everyone is present and accounted for, we should begin, don't you think?" indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
