Amy looked at the limo that held her now, amazed by its luxury. Even in her wildest dreams as a child, she never thought she would be surrounded by such wealth. In fact, when she heard the news, she found it difficult to believe. It didn't help that the day she discovered she was a princess was April fools day. Her mind returned to that day.
" You are kidding. This is April fools day. This has got to be a tremendous joke." Wendy said. The formal looking man in front of her said, stone faced, "No. This is no joke. Your grandmother was indeed the princess of a country called New France. And has she died. This makes your mother the queen. And you a princess." "Tell me this is utter bull, mom. Please." Her mom was likewise very stone faced. Looking her daughter in the eye, she said, "No. This is indeed real." Here she paused to pull a sheet of parchment out and said, pointing. "You see. this is our family. This is your grandmother. This is me. Our royal lineage goes back generations." Confronted by this reality, Amy finally submitted. "Okay." She said. "I guess this means that I have to leave everything behind this instant." Another formal man said "You will finish this year. And New France will most likely not disappoint you. Our public education system is on par with nations like Finland. And our colleges like MIT. I have statistics to prove it."
And so it had gone. Amy had gotten her high school diploma, said her goodbyes to her friends, and was whisked off to New France. And now she was wondering why her mother was eating as much as she did. "Why are you eating so much mom?" she asked. "You will learn in time," came her cryptic response. And with that, Wendy settled back, enjoying as she did some of the new food offered to her. But not too much. A princess, from my understanding, should not be fat, she thought.but a girl has got to indulge every now and again. And I missed the triple size coffee I wanted when I got my diploma, she thought a moment later.
