Julia swallowed hard when she read the message that the only other girl in the building said she had gone home. What about the boys? She was not convinced any more that hiding in a mall at night with two boys was really clever. Thinking she could maybe convince her friend to return or ask her how she had managed to escape from the locked building Julia dialed Claire's number. But she was unlucky. A voice mail told her that the participant was not available currently. After she sent a text message via her app she waited for a few minutes, but immediately saw that Claire had not opened the message.
Finally she rises from her hiding place and continues to stroll along the closed, dark shops. The mall looked bleak and scary, completely different from the vibrant live during the main opening hours. Julia tiptoed along on her Converse sneakers, pausing every few paces to check for other footsteps. But the only thing she could hear was her own breathing and rustling of her clothes. Claire had told her, having overheard her mother talking to a female friend who worked at the mall, that the burgler alert only was active at the doors and windows to the outside. If this was true then at least she would not get into trouble with the police, she hoped.
Should she text one of the boys? Try to leave the building? Search for a guard to tell him that she was locked up accidentally?
