Abdul smiled, "Aw, from a local rancher. Didn't get his name but he was happy to let it go. He said that he hoped it would bring you much luck as it did himself".
Henry smiled, "I do hope so myself'. Henry looked at his watch.
“Well ol’ Abdul. I gotta head back to the ranch. I’ll come by later this evening to hang out”
“Absolutely old friend! Miss ya!” said Abdul as he gave you a hug.
You toss the hat in your truck. After a good 15 minutes, you see your ranch come into view. It was an older ranch but one you kept in shape. Your family had it for about two generations. It was your pride and joy. You park at the front of the house and walk into your room to pick up a few supplies before heading out. You made sure to bring the hat in. After assembling everything, you look at yourself in the mirror and put the hat on your head. You feel an enormous warmth come over you like a blanket. You never felt something like this, but boy, it made you smile instinctively! You felt the energy focus on your abdomen. You see your big belly begin to grow even larger! Your eyes get wider as you see your feet disappear
"Well, I guess that says goodbye!" Henry laughed as his ponderous belly become rounder and tauter. Soon, it was over a foot wide. But then he noticed his body become tanner like he had been out in the sun all day! He usually wore clothes to cover himself up in the hot sun. His neck grew a larger double chin. But in an odd way, his skin looked rather soft and…well….young! Even his face became more genial. Soon, the warmth disappeared although Henry was still shocked and over the moon.
“What in the world happened?!” Henry took off the hat and looked inside to see a closed note. He pulled it out and opened it. It read:
“To whom it may concern, you probably either read this or, hopefully, after putting on the hat. As you can tell, this hat is a bit “weighty” when it comes to its owner. I’m sure you are rather shocked, delighted, or angry or possibly a combination or all three. This hat belonged to a rancher who was rather portly. He tried to make a deal to live on through the people that put on the hat. The person he asked for this decided to only give him half of his wish. As you can see, you added on a bit of his appearance. But now, you will also have other surprises come your way. Enjoy the journey. The hat never ceased to not make my life adventurous”
“Well, guess I should’ve read this first! But then again…” Henry slapped his gut and smiled, “This body is wonderful!”
