Eric had been walking home from his last day of school when he wandered into an antique shop. It wasn't the kind that was full of expensive china and flower vases. This shop was filled with strange and mysterious artifacts. Eric had wandered to the back, where there were three objects sitting on a purple velvet cover atop an old table. There was a small gold coin, a silver necklace with a large pendant and a mysterious crystal ball. Appearing mysteriously from behind him, the shopkeeper had told him that those three objects were instruments of hypnosis possessing varying levels of power. He also told him that he could pick one of them to take home for free in hopes of generating more business. Eric was not one to say no to free stuff, so he collected the gold coin from the table and slipped it in his pocket. Eric was now home. The shopkeeper had explained to Eric how to work the coin. Eric was by no means convinced it would work, but he didn't have anything to lose by trying. So when he got home, he went straight to the garage, where his dad was cleaning his sports-car.
Eric really wanted to spend some more time with him. But Dan was almost always away for work. He figured he could have a lot more fun with the coin at his dad's work. There were plenty of rich folk coming and going, so maybe he could even go a few steps higher up. Manipulate a corporate executive to do his bidding, that sort of thing. "Hey dad, look at this!" He flipped the latch and held up the coin. "Wha-" Dan looked up, and was instantly enthralled by the coin.
Eric waved a hand in front of Dan's eyes. No response. Good. "Dad, listen carefully. From now on, you consider me to be your favorite child. You really want to take me to your Job and show me around. You don't mind me not paying too much attention to appearance or physique" Eric put the coin away, and Dan returned to normal. "What's up, Eric?" He asked, wiping his hands on a dirt-cloth. "Listen, I have to go to the shop this evening. Some European looking for real american quality cars. I was wondering if you would like to go with me." Eric smiled "Sure dad, sounds good." Dan made a thumbs up gesture "Great, kiddo. We leave after dinner."
Dan continued his cleaning and Eric left for the kitchen. Daydreaming about what he could do with his new toy.
