Lee could not deal with the pressure. She had been trying to reverse engineer this one specific device for going on a decade. She had been drafted straight out of school at the top of her class. She had inherited the program as one by one the older scientists on the project began to die off.
She didn't really have contact with any of the other scientists due to the compartmentalized nature of the project, but two years ago she had 'inherited' the notes of one of her esteemed colleagues, one Otto Von Roths.
Otto's take on the project had been vastly different and meticulously documented. Lee had poured over the notes, making leaps in her ability to decipher the device. The first breakthrough was verifying that the device was indeed of extraterrestrial origin.
Lee assembled a team of systems analysts, engineers and scientists, but their concerted study of the device was causing frustration and mistrust within the group. Lee had just diffused the third meeting that had broken down into infighting and Lee was worried that she may have to replace members of the group in order to continue.
She sat down in the room with the egg like device. It looked flesh like, with a faint light pulsing underneath the surface. As near as she could tell the light's pulsing was in tune with the rotation of the earth to the nanosecond. The pulse was hypnotizing, lulling the frustration and anger out of Lee. Dizziness overcame her and she passed out.
She awoke to the sound of alarms and shouts. Looking around she realized she was still in the room with the alien computer. Only the computer wasn't there anymore. And there were guards in the room, pointing guns at her.
