"What about working at a fast food place?" Michael suggested, his eyes focused on the road in front of him.
Emily's head flew up when she heard that, and she turned to her boyfriend, shaking her head furiously as she yelped, "No! I mean... eh... you know I'm not good around people! Besides, that would cut into our time together!"
Michael sighed before replying, "I'm just trying to help. It would be best if you put on more weight; we both know this. I know Sam is always talking about how she gets free meals at work, and well, maybe that's what you need to help you get in the habit of eating more often. Plus, all those extra calories would definitely help."
Emily glanced out the window before turning back to her boyfriend with a slightly sad expression. Her shoulders slumped forward as she whispered, "I know."
"I promise I won't say anything if you ever try to talk to Sam for advice," Michael said, a hint of a smile on his lips.
"Thanks," Emily replied, nodding her head.
A few minutes later, Michael stopped in front of the mall, and Emily got out of the car, "See you later?"
"I'll see you later." Michael smiled as he slowly drove down the street after Emily closed the passenger door.
Emily nodded in response before turning around and walking toward the mall. She looked over her shoulder to watch her boyfriend's car pull away before making her way inside. A gust of warm air blew through her shoulder-length hair as she opened the door to the mall, holding the front door open for a teenage couple that was walking out of it with their hands intertwined and smiling at each other lovingly. Emily blushed slightly, looking down at her feet shyly as she walked past them quickly and then continued to make her way into the mall proper.
Her heart was pounding loudly in her chest as she walked through all of the stores around, each one slowly catching Emily's eye as she tried to decide what she wanted to do. She pulled out her phone, glancing at the time, and sighed, "Still have about an hour 'til I need to leave for dinner. Don't know why mom insists on us having family dinner together. It's so stupid."
Emily walked around the mall, trying to decide what she should do with her time before she had to go home for dinner. She squeezed out of one store and into another, her eyes trailing down a sign that read 'Concert Tickets' on a stand in front of the movie theater. Emily sat down on a bench in front of the movie theater window, scooting up on one end as she looked at her phone again.
