This choice: Suggest she ask her best friend, Sam, for tips • Go Back... "Why don't you ask Sam for some help?" Michael said, glancing at Emily for a moment to see her reaction before returning his eyes to the road.
"What?" Emily said, unable to keep the surprise from her voice.
"Well, um, Sam definitely doesn't seem to have any problems gaining weight," Michael said, a small smile on his face, "Maybe you could ask her for some tips."
Emily sighed and returned to looking back out the window, "I don't know. I mean, how would I even start that conversation?"
"I don't know, just tell her that the doctor told you to put on some weight and ask if she could help you?"
"Hmph, it was your idea! Come up with something better than that!"
"Hey, you don't have to say it exactly like that; I was just using that as an example."
Emily sighed and glanced down at her clothed middle and moved her hand under her shirt, "I just don't know what to do."
Emily felt an uncomfortable amount of shame mixed with guilt. She was ashamed of how she looked and how she treated her body, but she still refused to do anything about it. She felt guilty because she knew the doctor was right, and her bone health was in danger if she didn't start eating more, but what can one girl do against a society that says thin is beautiful? Especially when food just never really seemed to appeal to her.
Emily closed her eyes and tried to picture what she'd look like with a bit more weight on her. She probably wouldn't look so sickly all the time, and she might actually start to get breasts. She hated how much her body looked like a boy's. Though, most of that was because of her lack of feminine curves or breasts. She really did need to put on some weight.
A few minutes later, she hopped out of the car as Michael pulled to a stop in front of the large mall that was pretty much the only interesting place in their small town.
"I'll see you when I get off work," Michael said, leaning over to kiss her before she shut the door and he drove away.
She smiled as she watched his car quickly disappear into the distance and made her way inside the mall. She walked slowly, her brown eyes scanning everyone and everything around her. Maybe it was just her imagination, but she felt like everyone was staring at her, though she knew it wasn't true.
"Emmy!"
Emily turned and smiled as her friend Sam came jogging up to her, her massive body jiggling with each labored step.
"Hey, Sam!" Emily said as Sam came to a stop next to her, "What're you up to?"
"Just about to get some food at the food court," Sam replied, looking around, "Want to join me?"
"Sure," Emily said, falling into step beside her fat friend.
Sam hadn't always been this fat, though she'd been chubby for most of her life. The only time Emily could remember Sam not being at least a little overweight was when they were in kindergarten together. After that, Sam's love of food had slowly expanded her body, and now that she worked at "Fat Bob's," she'd practically exploded. Emily glanced at Sam, who was huffing from the exertion of walking. Sam was probably twice Emily's weight, though, with how little Emily weighed, it was probably closer to three times. Still, she seemed happier than Emily had ever felt, and she carried herself with a confidence that Emily was lacking.
Emily bit her lip, wondering if she should take Michael's advice and just ask Sam for help gaining some weight.  indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
