It was Felicia’s senior year in high school. She was on top of the mountain getting ready for a skiing sprint down the double diamond mountain with her helmet and goggles on tight. Felicia had a life of striving to be the best. Having a 3.97 GPA, being in challenging classes like Latin and Calculus, and being on the softball and skiing teams, she was an active child. However, while she was book smart, her street smarts made her seem like a naive girl. She never kissed a boy, never had a sip of alcohol, never had sex, and had two close friends in High School and just knew everyone else. She was close with her older brother who was off at college while her younger brother and her younger sister were at home with her. Her sister and her would always nag with one another and also compete with looks as her sister was one grade younger. Meanwhile, her younger brother was in his final year of middle school.
Felicia’s life was all focused on this hill. She had been skiing for the past few years and really enjoyed the speed, the threading in the snow, and being outside. Out of a few people, she truly enjoyed winter. She was getting ready for the race to start as her mind remained clear, and she waited for the horn to go off. Suddenly, a loud noise rang through the mountains and Felicia put her momentum forward with her blue jacket flying down the hill like dust in the wind. She kept on threading back and forth in the snow with her speeds being well above 30 miles per hour. Her mind was steady and focused on the feeling of the snow to ensure she remained safe. Her life was going as planned as she was getting ready to prepare for college, hoping to either go to the University of Michigan or another school some of her family went to. All she wanted to do was be a doctor, and be successful. That all changed in an instant.
Suddenly, Felicia’s face was full of snow as she fell sideways. A feeling of pain ran through her knee as she fell one way while her knee went another. As she hit the ground, she flew down the mountain at least another ten feet while the snow around her flew. When all was said and done, she looked around and noticed her skis were still on. She told herself she could get up and finish. However, as she tried to stand up, her left knee caused her a searing pain she never felt before. She knew then and there, her season was over. Her last year, her senior year, and this is how it ended. She grasped her knee as one of the emergency teams came over to help get her onto a nearby snowmobile to help her down the mountain with her leg kept up to ensure no more damage was done. However, it was too late as Felicia went back to the lodge.
She immediately called her Mom to tell her she hurt her knee although they did not know how bad. In the emergency lodge, Felicia’s teammates helped her out as they gathered her stuff. Felicia took off her helmet and goggles. She immediately put on a white puff ball hat with one the largest puff someone had seen as the furry hat had tassels on the side. Felicia always wanted to cover her hair especially after skiing from how it looked. Her jacket was off leaving her in her clothes she was wearing and her snow pants that was strapped onto her. They helped bandage her knee until she could go to the emergency room, which they had to wait for Felicia’s mother to arrive. While Felicia felt a pang of hunger, she wondered what she should do as she sat and waited for her mother to get there.  indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
