Chapter #3

New Place, New Marie

Thunder crashed overhead, momentarily drowning out the sound of rain pounding the window and roof of Marie's new room. The ocean was turbulent, with large waves pounding the beach, while the dark clouds above mirrored the chaos of the water below.

She shifted her weight to relieve some of the pressure from her knees, her bed creaking under her, as she continued to stare out her window at the small town spread between her parent's new house and the beach. Many of the houses closer to the beach were older, and she almost got a horror story vibe as she stared down at the few homes closest to the raging sea.

She should have been spending her time unpacking boxes or trying to learn more about the town- but instead, she was here, fantasizing about all the things she'd left behind and all the possible outcomes of the first day in her new school tomorrow.

Marie had always been a short girl, never reaching over 5'2 in height, but she was confident about her body, knowing she was in great shape for her age. She had always been athletic, playing tennis, soccer, track, softball, and even lacrosse. However, this was such a small town that she wondered what sports her small high school might offer.

Her bed creaked again as she adjusted her weight, a small moan escaping her lips as she contemplated her situation. Why did you have to move here? She asked herself, curling her knees to her chest before letting her knees fall flat to her bed once more. She didn't understand why her parents had decided to move to this backwater town of all places. There were no clubs, no shopping mall, no movie theater. Nor was there anything that would make them come to the town. There were no big businesses here, and her dad's new job was an hour away in the next city over. Why couldn't they at least have moved there? Then she could've at least enjoyed all the activities that a city of that size offered. As she looked over the city at her high school, it didn't even look like they had any place for sports. The only thing that was a redeeming quality was the view from her window.

As she stared over the city, she wondered what the school was going to be like. She didn't know who her teachers were going to be or even what classes she'd be taking. Her parents were at the school now, getting her and her younger sister enrolled. She figured they'd at least try to get her signed up for a couple of gym classes and maybe track or softball. She'd find out tomorrow, but she wasn't setting her expectations too high.

She climbed off of her bed, but not before hearing another creak and groan from the wooden frame. The wooden floor was cool beneath her bare feet, and she shivered as she made her way to the desk in the corner of her room. She looked back to her window, knowing that either way, she'd spend the rest of the day thinking about the first day of her junior year.

"The rainstorm grew stronger, but Marie didn't mind as she sketched out a few pictures of anime characters. She'd always loved to draw, and she loved the anime style, though she hadn't really had much time to draw back in her old city because she was always at some sporting event or practicing for a sporting event. Honestly, she'd forgotten how much fun it was to be able to draw in her sketchbook.

After drawing over an hour, she decided that it was time to get lunch, but she had no idea what to get. She was pretty sure her parents had only boughten the bare necessities so far, but it wasn't like they lived in a bustling city with a fast-food place on every corner. Still, there had to be restaurants in this town. She pulled out her phone and did a quick search for some restaurants that were within walking distance. Though, honestly, the whole town was probably within walking distance for Marie.

A moment later, her phone popped up with a few different results as she glanced out her window at the pouring rain. She didn't have a car yet, so she'd have to go walking out in the storm, but it would probably be worth it if it meant she got more than a sandwich or something from her kitchen.

You have the following choices:

*Noteb*
1. Get a sandwich from her kitchen

*Noteb*
2. Walk to a nearby fast-food restaurant

*Noteb*
3. Decide to skip lunch

4. Something Else

*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
