Avarice drives any other thought out of your head and you immediately say to yourself, "I want to be rich!" The stone flashes even brighter this time, and it blinds you before everything goes dark.
Regaining consciousness, you open your eyes and notice that daylight has suddenly appeared in your window; pulling yourself up from the bed you are suddenly lying on, you are startled by the changes in your room. It's bigger and filled with things you have never had before of great quality. Excited, you jump out of bed and try out stuff you never had before. After that, you shower and change clothes before heading downstairs. Even the house has changed into a mansion, and your family is eating breakfast in a dinning room with changes of their own. Your mom is in a expensive-looking business suit and is talking into a bluetooth headset; Alice is dressed in the latest fashion and Julie is playing on her personal computer. None of them look up as you enter, but Alice sniffs and pronounces in a snooty voice, "Took you long enough to get up. Your friends are the worst kind of animals to live around here."
Taken aback at her apparent change in manner from the nice and slightly mischievous sister you know, you tell her, "Jason isn't an animal, you know he treats you well every time he comes around."
She looks up at you and sneers, "Who the hell is Jason? You're finally losing it like I thought you would."
Julie mummers without taking her eyes off her screen, "Just shut up you two, I'm sick of hearing your voices every morning so do everyone the favor and just stick it."
Julie was never so introverted and full of spite. The stone must have changed only the past, and never given the memories from then, up until now. You feel trepidation as you hear your mother's voice snap out like a whip as she says, "Kids, I'm on the line and I need all of you to be quiet." Your mom always put her kids before work, and the new all-business model is as cold as ice. The changes in your family disturb you as you leave the table without eating. Money really does change people and you aren't sure you want this new reality.
