Jack took another quivering breath and slowly nodded, confirming verbally as well. "Y-yes...I...I think I do."
Melissa closed her eyes and took another deep breath. Jack was afraid of what was going through her mind. Was she going to get angry? She seemed oddly calm...or at least, trying to maintain her composure.
Opening her eyes, she didn't lose her strict aura as she kept her gaze at her son. Jack couldn't help but look away in shame, but his mother wasn't going to have any of that.
"Look me in the eye, mister. I want your complete honesty. Does this have anything to do with your little brother? Are you jealous?" she asked.
Jack froze and did as his mother instructed, staring nervously at his mother. He hesitantly nodded, feeling more ashamed as his mother was slowly peeling off any pride or manhood he had left. He felt like punching himself for being so stupid. Why did he have to put on a pull-up?
Seeing her son accept his feelings of jealousy, she uncrossed her arms and then sighed once more. She finally gave her own response to her son's apparent revelation.
"Jack, although I personally can't understand your choices or feelings, I will support you on this matter. Perhaps I've been...a little too hard on you; even neglecting you," she answered, surprising Jack immensely.
Widening his eyes for a moment, he then furrowed his eyebrows and curled his lips. "I...I don't understand. What do you mean?"
Melissa put her hands on her lips and she relaxed herself. "It means that I'll pay more attention and baby you from now on. I expect you to become more obedient though, young man. Do you understand?"
Jack couldn't believe what he was hearing. His mother was going to...spoil him? He never even dreamed of such an unrealistic acceptance to happen. Nodding dumbly, Melissa was pleased to hear that he understood.
