The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

by: Hidden in a Box Author IconMail Icon
It was another seemingly ordinary day at North High, and for the members of the SOS Brigade, which only meant one thing: Haruhi was bored out of her mind. She let out a bored grunt as she leaned her head on her palm in front of the brigade's computer. She, Kyon, and Yuki were the only ones currently present in the club room, with Itsuki and Mikuru already having left. Kyon sat at the table, while Yuki was reading in the corner as usual.

Against his better judgement, Kyon decided to ask her what was bothering her. "So whats got you down this time?"

"Ugh, its just been so boring around here lately." she replied.

He figured as much. "Well, what can you do? Life is just like that sometimes." he said, hoping to discourage her from whatever she might be wishing this time. Those never ended well.

"Hey Kyon, have you ever wondered what it would be like to be someone else?" Haruhi asked after a few minutes of silence.

"Well, I guess. I'm sure everyone has thought about it at one point or another." he responded.

"I mean, our lives is so dull. Nothing really interesting ever really happens to us."

'Oh how wrong you are...' Kyon thought.

"Right now I really wish I had someone else's life. Its gotta be more interesting than mine." she said. After another few minutes of silence, Haruh stood up. "I'm heading home. See you tomorrow."

"See ya." Kyon replied. At this point, the only other person left in the room was Yuki, so Kyon decided to head home as well. No point staying much longer. As he stood up, he looked over to Yuki, who was looking up from her book at him.

"Be prepared. Something is about to happen." Yuki stated simply.

"Whats going to happen?" Kyon asked her.

"I am unsure."

'Great. Well, its not like I didn't expect thhe peace to end eventually.' Kyon thought as he exitted the room. The rest of the day was uneventful for him, and later that night, he evetually fell asleep, ignorant of what his and the SOS Brigade's next little misadventure would be.
