Ranma, Akane, their friends, Nabiki & Kasumi (who brought R & A their lunch) were in the school yard having lunch when the amazon duet arrived followed by Happosai who cast a spell to get rid of Ranma but everyone in the area who were consumed by the flash, when they could see again saw that they were

Ranma = Female (has control over curse)
Akane = Male
Nabiki = Male
Kasumi = Female
Shampoo = Male (curse is altered/anthro)

Ukyo = Male
Mousse = Female (curse is altered/anthro)
Kuno = Female
Yuka = Male
Sayuri = Male
Hiroshi = Female
Daisuke = Female

& only were their appearance different they were somewhere else leaving the obvious questions where were they & who are they
