I blinked. I waved my hands in front of my face. I pinched myself a few time. Still, the black void remained, with that strange, disembodied hand hanging from the bottom.
Whatever this was, if it was a hallucination, it was a persistent one. Somehow, though, I had my doubts this was all in my head. Either way, I had no interest in finding out what would happen if I stuck around.
I slowly made my way out of the bathroom and towards the nearest exit from my bedroom, making sure to stick to bare walls of my room as I shimmied around the black space. At least, that was what I intended to do before I heard something say:
"Someone's in a rush, aren't they?"
I froze. Where the hell did that voice come from?
"Oh, I assure you, I am right here in this very room. All you have to do is listen, and you will find me.
A cold chill raced up my spine. Great. A strange voice coming from nowhere, and it could read my mind. Just what I needed on top of all this insanity. Maybe I really was going nuts.
"There's no need to worry about that, I assure you. Now kindly heed my words and listen."
I sighed. It looked like I had no choice but to follow that strange voice's directions. It sounded coarse, like an old prospector who'd had one too many throat Lorenzes, yet it wasn't entirely unpleasant, either. There was something familiar about the voice as well... too familiar.
