Brad woke up with a smile on his face and a song in his heart.
"Life is good," he thought as he sprang out of bed and into the shower.
"No," he thought as he turned on the shower. "Life is perfect."
As he showered showered, shaved, and dressed for work, he thought, "I've got the perfect life."
He sauntered into the kitchen where his wife, Grace, was preparing breakfast. Grace was a lovelym sophisticated woman in her twenties. She was blonde, trim, socially prominent (which attracted Brad's attention first), and shared the same view of life as Brad. She knew what was proper and how to succeed. She didn't work anymore. She quit as soon as they got married. Now she devoted her time to presenting the perfect house and being socially active in her church and community. That's was the way to insure her and her husband's future success in all things.
Brad and Grace chatted and ate breakfast quickly and off he went to work in his BMW.
As Brad drove out of his subdivision, he passed old Tom who was sitting on his porch. Although Tom waved politely, Brad ignored him.
"god, I can't wait until they evict that old loser."
Tom lost his job a year before and was still unable to find work. The bills were piling up and his house was falling down.
Brad viewed this man as a failure and avoided him as much as possible as if his failure was contagious.
Brad had no idea that it would be.
