You break into a grin at the thought and kick your horse into a speedier gallop. It served the bandit right! Peasant?? Who did he think he was calling a peasant! Well you were certainly your own man now. Live life on the edge. The world was your oyster!
Relishing the feel of the stranger's skin around you you felt like laughing. This was going to be a fresh start. Let the bandit deal with overturned carts and grumpy merchants!
Well, except for the hooves you heard behind you. And was that yelling?
"Stop!"
You twisted in the saddle and risked a look back. It seemed like the bandit had dealt with the overturned cart alright. He'd dealt with it so well he'd unhitched a horse and was riding bareback at breakneck speed.
Damn. This guy was good. The other bandits hadn't quite realized they were being pursued but it was only a matter of seconds before they did. You had to act fast.
