Leroy has been studying magic for about 10 years now. It started with playing MTG and DnD but then...He found out that it was real.
When his dad hit a man with his car he stole some stuff from the corpse before disposing of it. He mailed Leroy the book assuming that it was a fake, and Leroy turned him into the police. Kept the book though.
Leroy also didn't believe that the book had real magic until he learned how to make the floor slippery. That was a fun little wake up call. Despite that early success Leroy hadn't made any progress with new magic for a while. He learned the rules of casting spells.
He only had so much mana (a term he stole from MTG) to use spells in a day. And like Dnd he could only prepare so many spells per day. He thinks he can prepair three but seeing as how he only knew the one it didn't matter yet. He also only had about 10 mana a day so far. The slippery floor spell only cost two so that wasn't the worst but it could be so much more.
Pouring over his spell book Leroy believes that he can now perform a Charm Person spell. It should only cost 3 Mana but it doesn't enslave anyone right away, it just makes them more helpful. Still it was a start, and he was eager to test it out.
