Adam and Evan had been best friends ever since they were kids. After a lot of studying and testing, they were finally finished school. Early that year, they had decided that they were going to have a big road trip. They planned to visit as many states as they could during the next year before they figured out what they were going to do with their lives. They spent the year saving money and planning the trip when they had free time until the day arrived when they would drive off.
It was going great until they got to Nevada. They were driving in the middle of nowhere during a freak snowstorm when the car broke down. They tried calling AAA but they couldn't get a signal. As night fell, they found themselves grabbing every scrap of clothing they could fit on and bundled up. They spend a very cold night sleeping in the car, trying their phones every so often to no avail. There wasn't much they could do but look for any food that they hadn't eaten yet and wait for someone to find them.
So they waited.
And waited.
It became very clear that the likelihood of someone driving down that road before they ran out of food or froze to death was looking very slim.
"I hate to say it," Evan said turning to Adam, "but I don't think we can stay here any longer." Adam didn't say anything but just nodded in agreement. They bundled up as much as they could and climbed out of the car's window, since the door was blocked by snow.
The desperate, hungry pair ventured forth into the storm in hopes that they could find someone to help them. The wind was harsh, forcing them to avoid looking exactly what direction they were going just to protect their eyes. They walked for hours with no trace of civilization in sight. As the sun began to set, it looked as all hope would be lost. They were not going to survive the night in this weather. They were worn out from all the walking, their energy wasted. All looked hopeless until something hard caught Evan's foot, causing him to trip.
"You alright?" Adam asked, helping up Evan.
"Yea, I just tripped over something," Evan said looking back to where he tripped. He didn't know exactly why, but he started to nudge the snow there. He felt something there, something solid. He kept feeling around, concluding that what ever had tripped him, was pretty wide. Evan knelt down and pushed away snow until something metal came into view. Adam joined him and it wasn't long before they had unearthed what looked like a giant steal door with a symbol on it. The image appeared to be an atom with the nucleus replaced with and apple.
Adam and Evan looked at each other then grabbed the handle. It took some effort, but with a loud groan, they opened the door and saw a staircase leading down.
"What is this?" Evan pondered.
"Maybe its a bomb shelter?" Adam proposed.
Either way, they had few options, so they began their descent.
Adam and Evan felt along the walls for a white, discovering that this place was much bigger than they expected, finally Adam finds a light switch, and the entire place lights up.
It's huge you realize, but neither of your are in the mood for exploring, you look around for the nearest bed, finding only one King sized bed, you both, tired and cold, strip off your wet clothes down to your boxers, not about to make a big deal out of it, and you both quickly fall asleep, tomorrow you'd head back out and try to find some help.
