Chapter #3other by: Unknown Frank was walking through the mall when he came to a very unusual store. It was small, with a simple tinted glass door that read Specialty Science on it. Normally, Frank would not have given it a second thought, but he had just been reading about some new discovery and decided to go inside.
The store was not very big, but there were a lot of items, and all of them looked like they were out of a science fiction film. He saw something for a shrink-Ray, a anti-gravity machine, but what caught his attention was a teleporter. At least, that's what it said it was. A older woman in jeans and a nice shirt walked over to him.
"Eyeing the teleporter?"
"Yeah. Really, what is that? Some kind thing that puts on a light and smoke show?"
"Believe it or not, no. It is an actual teleporter." She smiled.
"No offense, but bull. There is no such thing."
"I don't expect this to sway you, but that is real. It was patented back in the seventies, but it was brushed under the rug."
"Now, don't give me this conspiracy nonsense."
"No conspiracy. It was brushed under because it had serious flaws. A few thousand were made, but that's it."
"What happened?"
"Well, no one died, but there were some mix ups. You have to understand, it was safe if you knew what you were doing, but few were willing to learn."
"Just for kicks, how much is it?"
"Fifty bucks."
"Deal."
Frank walked out of the store with a box containing what looked like a small circular welcome mat and a small computer. He figured it would be good for a laugh.
An hour later, he was at his apartment and had it set up. The instruction manual was over a hundred pages, and he didn't bother to read any more of it than what was needed to set it up and get the gist of using it. He saw on the screen that it could beam him over a thousand miles in any direction. He decided on a test run, to the coffee shop two block away. He selected the spot, got on the pad, and after about ten seconds, he was in the coffee shop.
