Katie was just window shopping down the main street when she found it, a statue in what looked to be polished green marble with some gold-leaf decoration. She almost walked past it, sitting there in the window of the antiques shop, but just as she was drawing abreast of it, the light caught the gold, making it glitter, and catching her eye. Stopping to look, the young woman saw that the piece must be new, it looked unusually fresh compared to the sun-faded goods in the rest of the window. About six inches high, it seemed to be a cross between a 'fat old man' buddha statue and one of those stone-age fertility idols. Her curiosity piqued, she decided to enter the shop and enquire about it.
A bell tinkled as Katie opened the door and entered the shop, which drew the attention of the old lady behind the counter, "oh, hello miss, and how can I help you today?"
"I was just wondering about that statue in the window," Katie replied, "it looks new."
"It is," the old lady replied, "I was given it only last week, young man came in, purporting to be from the Luckmann estate."
"The Luckmann estate," Katie asked, surprised, the Luckmanns were millionaires, as rich as croesus, to think that even the tiniest possession had ended up in this dead-end shop...
"That's what he said, yes," the old lady replied.
Katie thought about it for a moment, then asked, "how much?"
"A hundred," the old lady replied.
Katie's eyes almost boggled at the price, this little old lady wanted a hundred bucks for a little statue she all but admitted she'd been given? Okay, it was a nice looking thing, but still...
