Advancement: In these stories the character/characters don't show signs of regression due to their obesity. Instead, the show improvements. Whether it's physical, where they become stronger, faster, taller, or mental, where they become more jolly, focused, confident, or both of these characteristics improve at the same time. They basically become a more superior person than their former self due to weight gain. Quite a strange idea, I know, huh?
