*Beep Beep Beep*
A hand slammed down on the alarm.
Kent was your typical high school student. Average in basically every possible way. In a never changing loop of his teen years. What does he think about his current life?
Kent trudged to the bathroom and did… the usual.
He got out and went to put on his … usual attire.
At breakfast, he ate the… usual cereal and milk combo.
On the way out, he grabbed got his… usual “Bye son. Have a nice day!” from his mom.
He stood bye the bus… as usual.
He got up and sat next to his best friend, Tyson… like usual.
- I think you get the point. Everything is… the usual -
Kent walked home that day pretty much tired… as usual.
His mom, Sarah yelled from upstairs “Welcome home son? Anything new happen today
Kent felt his mind deflate “No mom!”
Sarah “That’s nice honey. Go have-”
Kent “I know… a fruit or something in the kitchen…” He though, at least I know that we have ‘different types of fruit’. He walked in and saw a fruit basket full with oranges. He lost his appetite immediately, and walked up to his room.
He grabbed his laptop and started to work on his programming homework. His favorite class was Computer Sciences/Programming. They were working on individual projects, and he was having a hard time coming up with an idea. The lack of change has impacted his creativity greatly.
Kent “Maybe I can get an idea from the internet.” He went to his computer and typed in “Programming Projects-” He was doing this with Google instant on, so a few things had already popped up.
There were a bunch, but one of them really stood out to him for some reason. “ReWritten: Its Your Life!”
Kent was curious “What’s ReWritten?” He read the small description at the bottom. “Looking for feed on latest reality manipulation program project. First 20 testers get to keep program indefinitely.”
Kent decided that it wouldn’t hurt to try it out. He ran a scan on the website, and it was clear of viruses. He clicked on it and an installation window opened up. He clicked download, and then he installed it. Finally, he opened the program.
“Welcome to ReWritten. Please select segment of history to be ReWritten.” Suddenly, a timeline of Kent’s whole life appeared. Starting from when he was born to current time. The time line was still growing since time wasn’t stopping.
Kent “What they. How… where. What?” Kent was looking and reading. How on earth did this info get on the internet. How do they know this stuff. Kent started reading parts of his life that he had long forgotten about. Slowly, he began to creep up the timeline until recent times. Things started to get repetitive in high school. You thought you had read the same line twice, but it had actually popped up twice! “No ****** way! This has to be a scam… but…” He couldn’t believe that his whole history was being displayed by the program.
Then a voice played “Please select segment of history to be ReWritten.”
Kent’s hand was shaking. “I’ve got to be insane to trust this thing, but ok then.” Kent scrolled down to change something minor. “Lets see what would I change.” Then he saw it.
The day of the spelling bee. “I hated that day. I almost one. If only if I spelt Received E-I and not I-E. Maybe that wouldn’t be such a bad thing to change.”
Kent highlighted that part of the time line, and another pop-up came up. “Segment selected. How will it be changed.” Then a small text box appeared. Kent typed in “Kent spelled RECEIVED correctly.” Then he pressed ReWrite. A pop-up appeared “Are you sure you wish to change this?” and below was a check box to never show it again. He checked the box and pressed “Yes”. The program “Please wait we’ll segment is ReWritten.”
Kent waited a moment, until a loading bar finished loading. “Finished. You have won a spelling bee. Congratulations.” Kent thought about the spelling bee, and still remembered losing.
Kent “What a dud. I feel like an idiot now!” Kent was rather disappointed. “Might as well delete this junk program.” Kent reached for the mouse again, but saw something next to it. It was a small trophy “For Excellent Spelling: Kent Huffman”
Kent was shocked “No way…” He grabbed the small trophy to make sure it was real. “I won?” Then a new memory popped up in his mind “I did win!”, but he could still remember losing. He turned back to the computer screen, and he saw the program was waiting for another command.
Kent was shaking with shock, amazement, and excitement most of all!
