Chapter #3

Behold, I am Vero...

    by: Authrox Author IconMail Icon
The woman lay alone upon the old medical bed. Her eyes looked upward towards the old ceiling tiles. "How long?" She asked herself. "Has it been since I came here."

A knock on her door disturbed her concentration. She looked up to see a slender man draped in a dark cloth wearing a disfigured mask one would expect to see on Halloween. "It's time." Stated the young man as he lifted up his mask to reveal a handsome face. "Vero will see you now."

"It's about time." Stated the woman. Garbed in a medical robe. "A week of testing and preparation in this abandoned Hospital isn't my idea of fun."

"I've checked the contract, have you read it over?"

"Yes."

"Are you aware of what Vero wants?"

"Yes."

The lone man replaced his mask, his eyes gave a look of uncertainty before leading the woman to the upper floor laboratory. After a few minutes time they arrived in a room with the ceiling having been replaced by a mechanical cover, open to the weather outside.

Various machines lay strewn across the room while a lone man stood in a long white science coat, wearing long rubber gloves and playing with his over-sized Tesla coils. The excess static electricity had caused his hairs to stand on end.

"Laugh with me." He commanded. His aide did so. The lone man secured his toys before turning around and jumping off his platform upon the old tile floor.

"Igor." The man commanded. "Is everything in order?"

"Yes master."

"Fair lady. Are you sure, you wish to proceed? It's a thousand dollars if you back out now."

"With a million at stake?" Answered the woman. "Oh, I'm more then ready."

"Igor, has she been given the shot?"

"Yes."

"Is her blood work done?"

"Yes Vero."

"Stay in character Jeff." Vero took a moment to clear his throat. "Now fair lady. How are your allergies?"

"Surprisingly clear." Answered the woman, only now realizing it.

"I see the curious mind at work. Allow me to introduce myself. I am Vero. It's actually an acronym, but I like it. I was just generating an anti histamine field to help clear you of your allergies for this experiment. It's a modified take on frequencies to help increase..."

Jeff gave a deliberate cough. Vero took a moment to realize he was loosing his test subject's attention.

"Please strip, and lay upon this table." Instructed Vero. Pointing out the metallic operating table.

The woman took a moment to comply before lying down. In moments, Vero and his assistant were strapping the woman down. Finishing quickly, Vero stood over the woman's head to gaze into her eyes.

"I would like to personally thank you for advancing science today. The shot, administered earlier in the week, would of flushed all foreign contaminates from your blood lines. My Tesla experiment just flushed any lingering allergens. I'm ready with the equipment. Are you?"

"For the thousandth time. Yes." Answered the woman.

"Igor. Throw switches two, three, and six." Commanded Vero, positioning himself on the master switch.

The assistant took a moment to comply.

Vero activated his audio log before continuing. "Today is a monumental day in science. For today I shall prove to the world that the use of quantum mechanics in relation to a given quantum environment, can be used to generate excess space within a limited volume. To illustrate this. I'm using the natural quantum processor of my subject, her brain, and through use of advanced quantum mechanics, transforming those quantum properties into equivalent space."

The woman gave a look of shock. "This isn't what I signed up for!"

"Did you read your contract?" Asked Vero.

"I skimmed it."

"Did you sign all required lines?"

"Of course I did!"

"Then let the experiment commence." With those words, Vero threw the master switch.

All the equipment in the room seemed to die. The assistant was about to unleash the woman when Vero told him to stop. Power again began to surge and two separate emitters positioned themselves to either side of the woman. Vero instructed the assistant to cross over the yellow line. Realizing his mistake the Assistant complied. The emitters, shot out visible energy into the air. Creating a distorted sphere around the woman. More and more energy continued to accumulate before the woman's body was completely enveloped. In moments, a condensed beige mist appeared within the eye of the energies focus. Vero threw a couple more switches. Waited for an led light to come on before turning off the master switch. The assistant responded by turning off the switches on his end.

"Oh my god, you killed her!" Screamed the assistant.

"I'm not dead." Came the woman's reply, her body, a human colored sphere atop the examining table.

"But how?" Asked the Assistant.

Vero took a step forward, grabbing a long pole in hand. He reached out, gently feeling the skin of the sphere, before finding the woman's mouth. "I do apologize my dear." But before the woman could ask, Vero inserted the long pole into her mouth. He kept feeding it until very little remained. "Success." Stated Vero. "Expanded space within a bound medium. Take my instructions and do a thorough investigation Igor. I need exact data to prepare our subject for phase two of my experiment."

"Whats your goal Vero?" Asked the Assistant.

"Other then keeping my subject alive for the next ten years..." Vero paused briefly when the woman attempted to protest with a pole in her mouth. "I'm simply taking a shortcut to generate space within a given space. Imagine the possibilities. Simplifying mass transport in special units which observe only their given weight. If my calculations are correct. We could fit an entire city in a single medium and never have it weigh more then the mediums origin."

"How?"

Vero gave a look of surprise. "How? How?! I'm abit surprised you haven't realized. Faux-space observes the effects of reality only within itself. I will need to generate a suitable door, which is the reason for stage two. But right now, our volunteer has a separate mini universe inside of her. Which we can use. Just imagine the future possibilities. Population, bio-hazard, or nuclear waste. All safely stored within a quantum medium. We could send everything to support a successful colony to the moon, or create the ultimate prison control system. The applications are limitless."

"What happens if the sphere breaks?"

"What do you mean break?" Vero stood for a second to assess what was just asked of him. "Do you mean a break down of the quantum forces which allow for the existence of this medium..? Then I pray you can run quickly, because the power released would be equal to the space and energy displacement within the medium."

The assistant stood for a moment in contemplation.

"Now follow the instructions outlined on my memo over there and I'll be back to check up on the two of you later."

"Yes Vero." Came the Assistants reply.

Vero walked off to his office. Knowing he would need to ensure his preparations were truly ready...
