Exiting the Hall

by: Scifiwizard Retired Author IconMail Icon
Upon entering the hall outside the throne room, dubbed the 'hall of miracles', all the guards stood at attention as queen Minerva came into view behind them. "All hail Prince Eton, daughter of princess Myrrh by rite of rebirth!" she announced.

The guards immediately turned to Eton and bowed before declaring, in one voice, "Hail prince Eton, daughter of princess Myrrh! You shall not be harmed!"

With that said, the guards returned to their posts, unmoving. Eton, taken back, turned to see the heavy door sliding closed with a low ruble and caught a warm smile from queen Minerva. *You may just be what my daughter needs to finally grow up, Eton.* she thought to you. *Welcome to Skyaira, my grandson.*

A smile touched the corners of Eton's mouth as he waved bye to his new grandmother then turned away and followed Myrrh down the hall, to another corridor that was lined with doors and other halls. Once they were far enough away, Eton asked, "What was that all about... mommy?"

Myrrh sighed. "It was my mom's way of reminding me that I am not alone in raising you." she replied "Queen Minerva never shuts anyone out or leaves anyone to fend for themselves in her kingdom."

Eton nodded then asked, "So where are we going now?"

"The dining hall." replied Myrrh. "You did say you were hungry, right?"

Eton blushed as his stomach began to growl, causing Myrrh to giggle. "We don't have the foods you are used to but I can assure you they are just as tasty." she said. "I will bring you a little variety and tell you what each dish is."

Myrrh then led Eton into a grand hall with a long table in the center of the room with a large number of narrow backed chairs, which he guessed were to accommodate for a Misterian's wings. Myrrh smiled then said, "Find yourself a seat and I'll go talk to the kitchen staff."

With that, she touched a section of the wall, causing it to vanish, and walked through as the sounds of a busy kitchen filled the dining hall. Eton tried to look inside but the 'door' closed as soon as Myrrh was through, leaving the hall in silence again. "What a curiously wonderful place." said Eton, softly. "I feel like I'm in one of those fairy tale s Nicole loves to read."

Just then, Eton sensed that some one was watching him. It was not an new found power but a learned skill he had acquired when he was a grown man. He looked around and spotted a small child, no older than himself, nervously peeking into the hall, looking at him. Eton smiled, catching the child's eye. "I don't bite." he said. "Please, come in and know me better."

The child visibly gulped and walked into the room. As boys and girls all basically dressed the same, Eton could not tell if the person was a boy or a girl. "Hi, I'm Lea." she said, timidly."

Eton rose from his seat. "I'm Eton." he replied. "Um... forgive me, I was just... rebirthed. Are you a boy or a girl?"

Lea looked at Eton for a moment, then giggled as an attractive woman walked up behind her. "Lea, you're laughing!" she said, happy but surprised. "What's so funny?"

The woman looked into the hall as Lea explained between giggles and giggled herself as Eton blushed brightly. She entered, bringing Lea with her and gave you a respectful bow. "Girls keep their hair longer than boys and are more developed, when they enter puberty." she explained. "Also, boys have a more muscular frame."

"I see." said Eton, looking slightly lost.

The woman smiled. "I am Charity, master of arms of the Valkyrie."

"I'm Eton, son of princess Myrrh by rite of rebirth." replied Eton.

Charity's eyes widened slightly then bowed further, urging Lea to do the same but Eton shook his head. "Please, I'm still trying to wrap my head around being a little boy again." he said. "You don't have to bow before me."

Charity rose, smiling with Lea following. "May we join you?" she asked.

Eton nodded.
