"Excellent," said Hinata as she grabbed hold of Naruto's hand and began to lead him down the street. Naruto couldn't help but allow a small tinge of red to creep across his features causing Hinata to giggle slightly. "Is something wrong Naruto-kun?" she asked sweetly.
"I-I just don't feel comfortable," said Naruto as he looked at the ground, doing his best to avoid eye contact.
They stopped on the road and Hinata grabbed gently at Naruto's chin and made him look her directly in the eyes. "You don't have to worry Naruto-kun," she said as she stroked his cheek. "I will protect you, I'll always protect you."
The words seemed to have a noticeable effect as Naruto visibly became more relaxed. As they started to walk towards the Hokage monument once more Hinata couldn't help but smile realizing that her plan was slowly coming into play.
...
The walk through the streets of Konoha lasted no longer than twenty minutes before they reached the base of the monument. As they started to ascend, Hinata paused for a second causing Naruto to look at her in worry. "Is something wrong?" he asked.
"Can you carry me Naruto-kun?" asked Hinata. "You see I got these new shoes today and they're starting to rub my heels a bit painfully."
Hinata stood there patiently as she waited for Naruto's answer, knowing full well that the lie she had just told him would give her more details in how the process was going.
