Chapter #3

Foster you into his home

    by: ThirtyCharacters Author IconMail Icon
Daylight broke through the cracks in the wooden slats of the barn, casting a warm, golden glow onto the dragon's obsidian scales. His small body still ached from the ordeal, but as his eyes fluttered open, he found himself in a considerably more comfortable place than where he had last been conscious.

You looked around, taking in the sights of your new environment. You were nested in a bed of fresh straw, nestled in the corner of a barn. The scent of hay, animal musk, and wood filled your nostrils, and sounds of livestock grumbled faintly in the background.

Your senses sharp, you picked up on a quiet rustling outside. You were on high alert, and as the barn door swung open, you instinctively bristled, ready to flee if necessary.

In the doorway stood a man who introduced himself as Samuel, the human who had saved you. He didn't know if you could understand him but he had to start somewhere. He held a bucket in his hands and wore a cautious yet kindly smile on his face. You held his gaze, observing him closely. The man didn't exhibit the predatory look of a hunter. Instead, his eyes held an intriguing blend of kindness and curiosity.

Samuel set the bucket down near you, revealing a feast of sorts: raw fish and meat, wild berries, and a pitcher of fresh water. Your stomach growled, and you realized just how famished you were. Cautiously, you stretched your neck forward, grabbing the nearest fish with your sharp teeth, and gulping it down quickly. You repeated this process, gradually filling your belly and quenching your thirst.

As you ate, Samuel observed you from a distance. His eyes followed your every move, studying your mannerisms and reactions. The curiosity in his gaze felt far from threatening, instead, it seemed almost endearing. He was just as much of a mystery to you as you were to him.

After your meal, Samuel approached you again, this time holding a cloth soaked in a cooling solution. You watched him, your mind teetering between instinctive fear and an emerging trust. Sensing your hesitation, Samuel paused and gently extended his hand towards you. The smell of the cloth was soothing, and you instinctively leaned into the offered relief. Samuel slowly dabbed at your wounds, his touch gentle and careful. Each stroke of the cloth lessened the throbbing pain that had been your constant companion. The human's touch was not harsh but healing, not threatening but comforting. It was then that you truly understood; you were not his prisoner, but his charge.

Days turned into Weeks, and you grew stronger under Samuel's care. He fed you, tended to your wounds, and gave you space to rest and recover. In return, you grew to trust him more with each passing day. Your initial apprehension of the human farmer morphed into an unexpected bond. His quiet demeanor and gentle manners felt soothing and familial.

As you grew stronger, you ventured out of the barn more often. The vast fields of wheat stretching towards the horizon, the variety of animals bustling around the farm, the scent of fertile soil and blooming flowers - everything was new and fascinating. Each day was an adventure, and with every experience, your connection with this world and Samuel deepened.

But as a dragon, you knew you were destined for more than just a life on a farm. And yet, you found yourself growing attached to this simple farmer and his quiet life. Samuel, who had shown you kindness when he could have shown you hostility, had become your unlikely ally in this unfamiliar world.

Every sunrise brought a new day, and every sunset saw you returning to the barn, your sanctuary. You were a dragon in a foreign land, but you were learning, growing, and adapting. And as you nestled into the straw each night, you found a sense of peace in your heart. You knew you were not alone.

In his solitude, Samuel, a humble farmer, had chosen to care for you, a dragon hatchling. And you, in your isolation, had chosen to trust him. You were a creature of legends, of myths and magic, living in a simple farmer's barn, and with each dawn, you woke to a life that was far from ordinary.

It was a quiet Thursday morning and you were soaring through the clouded skies above.
