Drakes fall from the sky, you prepare to fight

    by: ThirtyCharacters Author IconMail Icon
As the figures in the sky grew clearer, you quickly realized the village was about to be besieged by a group of wild drakes. These lesser dragons were notorious for their destructive tendencies and lack of discipline. Fear started to build up within the villagers, their whispers turning into shouts of panic. You had no doubt in your mind what needed to be done.

With a mighty roar that echoed across the village and into the sky, you unfurled your wings, casting an imposing shadow on the cobblestone paths. Everyone, get inside! I will handle them, you projected your voice towards the villagers, including Timmy who stood beside you, eyes wide with a mixture of fear and awe.

As the first drake swooped low, its claws ready to cause damage, you lashed out, meeting it in mid-air. Your bodies collided with a thunderous crash, and you pushed the drake back with sheer strength. With a victorious growl, you swiped at the drake, sending it hurtling towards the outskirts of the village. You knew you had to minimize the damage, to protect these people who had been good to you and Samuel.

The following moments were a blur of scales, claws, and fire. You fought against the onslaught of the drakes, using every ounce of your strength and cunning. With every drake you managed to scare off or incapacitate, another took its place. Yet, you held your ground, the thought of Samuel's farm and the villagers fueling your determination.

Eventually, the drakes started retreating, having realized they had met their match in you. The villagers started emerging from their hiding places, their faces reflecting awe and gratitude.

Curiously the drakes bore marks of another local lord. It appeared that the attack was deliberate.

However, your victory was short-lived. Turning around, you saw the destruction left in the wake of the attack. Buildings were damaged, with one of the larger shops partially collapsed. An icy realization hit you as you recognized the shop Samuel had gone into.

Fear clutched at you as you quickly moved towards the ruined shop. You started digging through the rubble, your claws carefully shifting large wooden planks and bricks. Samuel, you projected, hoping for a response. But all you received was silence.

Time seemed to stretch into an eternity before you finally found him, unconscious and wounded. The sight of him, the human who had taken you in, cared for you, and treated you with kindness, in such a state was a harsh blow.

Fear, panic, and desperation filled you as you carefully lifted Samuel from the rubble. You were unsure of how to help him, your dragon instincts lacking the knowledge of human medical care.

Villagers started gathering around the ruined shop, their faces pale as they spotted Samuel in your grasp. The silence was broken by gasps and cries for help, and soon, people were rushing around, calling for the village healer.

As the healer rushed over, you reluctantly let go of Samuel, watching with anxious eyes as she started assessing his condition. Your mind was in turmoil, guilt gnawing at you. If only you could have prevented the drakes from attacking, Samuel wouldn't have been hurt.

Tears welled in your eyes as you realized the cost of this battle, the price Samuel had paid. Rage flowed through you, anger welling up through every crevice of your psyche. You were overwhelmed.

You have the following choices:

1. Retreat to a corner of the village

*Pen*
2. Stay with Samuel

*Pen* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
