The following morning Melanie was the first to be in the store. It was not easy being in charge, she thought as she hanged up her coat. Her two co-workers were not in yet, so everything was still quiet as Melanie took off the blankets of the stands, dusted off some mannequins and tiedied up some of the clothes that were hanging. For once she wouldn't mind trading lives, some people should have it easier than her.
And then she heard it. Melanie looked up as to what it was; it sounded like a humming coming from somewhere, like metal vibrating or something like that. Not sure what to make of it, Melanie let go off her broom as she began to look what was causing it. The only sounds in the store the humming and the clicking of her heels. Melanie noticed it seemed to come out of the changing room where she put the mirror yesterday. Was it causing the humming somehow? Melanie pulled the curtain away, but she didn't see anything out of the ordinary.
Melanie stepped inside the tiny room and looked at the mirror. It looked the same as the day before, just as her reflection. Her long blond hair tied up in a bun, her gray eyes, friendly smile, she was dressed in a white shirt, with a black jacket, her legs covered in black pants and on her feet the gray high heels she wore to work this morning. Nothing was out of the ordinary. And then it happened; Melanie looked in the mirror and suddenly her reflection began to smile and wave at her. Melanie was shocked, was this her imagination? Or was this real? Her reflection winked again at her and beckoned her to come closer. Not sure what to do, Melanie did what she was told as she took a step closer. Her reflection put her left hand in front of her, nudging her to do the same. With a trembling hand Melanie did the same with her right hand. Her reflection then took another look at Melanie and whispered: Gotcha. Without a warning Melanie felt herself being pulled away from where she was standing.
