Whether he was too small to be noticed, or they were too preoccupied by their game David couldn't be sure. In any case he arrived at his intended position and was observing the match. He knew very little about the game of checkers but that didn't matter. It was the giants he was observing. Other than being covered in fur and looking like animals they acted like typical kids. Typical kids who happened to be hundreds of feet tall. David looked at the eyes of both giants and thought he could hear gears grinding as one tried to beat the other.
David's macrophilla was in high gear, not that he was planning to do anything, but he envisioned being grasped between finger and thumb pads of one of the kids while they giggled and planned things to do to him. Anyone else would find that terrifying. But not David. Not in the frame of mind he was in. At the same time the knowledge that these were kids was in direct conflict with those desires. Good thing, it was keeping him in check and preventing him from doing something stupid.
"AH HA! I win this round!"
"Best two out of three?"
The Puma had won the first game. Good thing this was friendly competition. David decided it was best if he moved on and let the two continue the game without being stared at. He looked at the bedroom door. The world beyond was an unknown and he didn't know what he'd find on the other side. He wasn't sure if he was quite ready to break on through to the other side just yet.
