A dark clear night in the city.
Ariya sat leaning against the alley wall. The poor starving hyena hadn't had a decent meal in...she can't remember how long. Her stomach stung with gnawing hunger as it roared up at her. She could only rub it in a futile attempt to calm it.
She was so hungry she had become a little dazed and lost her way. Too weak to think about anything other than where to find food that didn't have insects or rot crawling all over it.
As she curled up and lay on her side in the pitch black alley, she attempted to try and get some sleep, to ignore the pangs of starvation.
That is, until, she heard a noise. Her ear flicked and she looked up as she saw a door swing open nearby. A large human, male she assumed, walked out with a large black bag and dumped it against the alley wall. Ariya was thankful for the darkness, the man couldn't see her so he couldn't shoo her off.
As the human walked back inside, Ariya's mind was finally taken off her hunger and instead burned with a question.
What was in the bag?
Staying quiet as a mouse, she slunk on all fours to the bag, pawing and sniffing at it.
Her claws had managed to create a small tear in the bag and instinctively pointed her nose into it, snuffling.
She gasped. Eyes widened. Stomach roaring. Her first smile in ages.
FOOD!!
She took both sides of the rip and tore the bag open, watching as the enormous bounty of delectables poured out like a wave in front of her. She didn't know what any of it was but it smelt amazing!
Humans are such idiots, she thought. Why would they waste such good food?!
And with that, the starving hyena dug into her feast.
