You all agree that you'll try to tackle what seems to be the easiest one first. However you then run into the problem of how to do it. Eventually you agree that two of the group will take on the roles, and the others will try to monitor and record the relative behaviors, and particularly how the 'child' will respond when quite literally treated as a young child.
You all draw straws to seen who take on which role, which seems the fairest way. Jo picks out the first short straw (mother) and you pick out the other (child). Well, that seems quite a good outcome for you - the others will be doing all the work monitoring and logging the results, and all you need to do is cram around and play with toys. That's a pretty good result!
However Tammy then outlines how you are going to run the project.
"As I said we want to have the scenario as realistic as possible, so this in not something to cover off in an hour in a lecture room. I suggest we run this over a weekend, which should give everyone a chance to get into their character a bit better, and give us a reasonable period to see if behaviors change at all. My sister's house is empty at the moment so we could all stay there."
You all agree that seems a sensible arrangement.
Tammy continues "And of course we will need to arrange a suitable environment for the play acting, any equipment we will need, and appropriate clothes."
"Clothes?" you ask. "What clothes?"
"Well if you're going to act as if you're a young child, then we can't have you wearing your school uniform, or your football strip or whatever. We will need to have you dressed as a toddler. Similarly Jo will dress as a young mother."
"Well yes, but...." you tail off. You realize that actually that does make sense. "OK."
"Right, can everyone make this weekend? Sis is away, so I can get her place ready. She already has a room decked out as a nursery so that save up a fit of effort. Just need to get some outfits sorted out for you guys - enough to last a weekend in character. Anyone up for a bit of shopping?"
