"What sorts of behaviors did you want to watch for?"
You think for a moment, and say "One of the things I'm interested in is how passengers relate to crew when they're not on a plane. You know, if they're sitting in a waiting area and a pilot is also waiting, how do they treat him?"
"I see." the manager replies. "I'll have to check to see what kind of uniforms we could find for you. I guess a maintenance staff jumpsuit?"
You scowl. "Well, if that's all you have..."
"Well, do you expect me to pull a pilot's uniform out of my desk?"
You picture yourself with stripes on your epaulets...
"Forget it. That would be against a zillion rules and besides, we don't have many female pilots. The rest of the staff would know. I know, just wait here." The manager leaves you in the office wondering what she's up to. She returns a few minutes later with a garment hanger.
"Okay, I pulled a few strings to get this. Now mind you, the airline this came from is celebrating an anniversary so they're using vintage uniforms. I hope that's okay with you."
You nod your head. The manager, whose name tag says "Alice" in large black letters, unzips the garment back. She removes a blue wool dress and jacket. Your immediate thought is that is seems to have a lot of sleeve and not very much skirt.
"So? What do you think? It's authentic vintage 70s." She holds it up, then holds it up to you. The skirt is indeed short and falls a few inches above your knees. "I think it's adorable and will look so cute on you." She laughs and you wonder what you've agreed to.
"Uhh, okay if this is what you could find. Do you think I'll pass as a stewardess for - how to you pronounce that? Verpletteren?"
"Yes Tony, uh Lucy. I'm sure this will work fine." She lays the dress over a chair, and sets down a bag containing panties, a girdle, stockings, bra, and a pair of black pumps. "Do you need help with this? Or can you dress yourself, Lucy?"
