"Pit-pat, pit-pat..." Richard muttered.
Sitting next to a window, he couldn't help but glare at the ongoing shower outside. He should have been exploring the wilderness outside the University, instead of spending the rest of the day in the promenade (Why couldn't the teachers just call it a cafeteria?), waiting for the rain to subside.
"Of course it had to rain on a field trip..."
At least doing nothing was better than doing nothing he mused. It would have been a horrible day for him if he had to do work during a field trip.
His monologue was cut short though, as something had caught his attention; way outside, far beyond the trees that the window allowed him to see, there was some kind of glow. It was soft, but it pulsated constantly, making it impossible to miss.
"Hey Alex!" Richard called out, pointing towards the glow, "do you see that?"
The class nerd (and friend) perked up at his name, before turning to look at him. Then, after seeing where he was pointing at, he looked at the glow, eyes narrowing.
"If you mean that weird glow in the trees," he answered, "then yeah. I see it."
"What do you think it is?"
"I don't know, maybe some kind of glowing moss?"
"Moss?"
"Yeah, there's this big book I read that said that there are some kinds of moss that glow."
"That sounds cool! We should go outside and look for it!"
Upon hearing Richards's suggestion, Alex frowned. It was raining really hard outside, and if they went outside, they'd not only get drenched, but they might get very sick as well. Plus, they could get in HUGE trouble if they did go wandering outside.
"If we do that, then we might get sick, and we will get in big trouble for sure."
"I won't get in trouble, my big brother won't get mad!"
"But I will!"
"C'mon! It's glowing moss! Getting in trouble just to see it will be worth it!"
"I don't know..."
Mulling over the consequences of going outside just to see glowing moss, Alex decided that...
