Chapter #3

There's something compelling about him.

You don't recognise the man on the screen. But the fear written on his face is impossible to deny. He writhes in his chair. Quickly it sinks in that he must be tied to his chair. His hands aren't visible. But from the straining at his shoulders you work out that his bonds are fairly solid.

It all feels a bit surreal, the silent terror of this man. Surely there's something you can do. Then you spot the icon in the corner of the screen, a big bold X over an icon of a speaker.

Clicking the icon, his voice comes from the speakers. At least you assume it's his, you can see his lips moving in time. But it must be a joke.... or something. The man sounds shrill and feminine, not merely high pitched, but girlishly sweet. He's crying and pleading, almost incoherently, "No... No... oh please... No.... not again...."

Then to your horror, he looks right down the lens to you.

Hope sparkles in his eyes, battling the tears, and terror.

"Can you hear me? Can anyone hear me? Please! Please answer! The light's come on, you must hear me... please, please answer."

Your mouth goes incredibly dry, and you try to answer.
