Acira laid in bed smothered by big, comfy blankets. Light blue painted walls surrounded her rather small bed. She was having dreams of, strangely enough, eating food to her heart's content. Her alarm clock waited patiently for 6am to arrive: when it finally did it let out a loud, constant ringing, the previously sleepy girl sprang up in surprise before grumbling grouchily and shut off her alarm.
She slid off her bed and began dressing for school. A simple white long-sleeve shirt and skinny jeans. She went looking for her dad to tell him she was ready for school before finding him in the kitchen. He was making breakfast which was unusual.
"Dad, I'm ready." She stared at the pancakes piled on a platter. Since when did he cook anything? It was always takeout.
Flipping over some pieces of bacon he replied, "hi sweetie, I've been teaching myself how to cook lately, we still have an hour before school starts so feel free to eat."
A small smile grew on her face as she discovered a newfound appreciation for her father. They had been surviving on the cheapest fast-foods they could afford ever since the divorce. She was very young at the time and didn't remember much, but it clearly had a rough effect on her dad. He was miserable during the first few years, not giving her too much attention besides giving her a share of food. Though he brightened up and spent more time with her, making sure she was okay, had good grades, etc.
She thought of all this while munching on the pancakes, already she felt full but she didn't want to seem unappreciative so she kept eating away. The pancakes were surprisingly good too...She wasn't used to anything besides fast-food. "Uwahhh.." She burped after finishing her stack of pancakes. Her middle felt tight, the doughy stuff taking all the space in her abdomen. Looking up, she saw her dad place a plate of bacon on the table. He looked at her and said, "you look full. You don't need to keep eating if you don't want to. I can eat it and put some away for later."
"Ok daddy..." She felt nauseous, "can you take me to school now..?"
