What if it was just the Simpson's that got affected but the whole town. Where a meteor had crashed and they had all switched gender or they would become like manikins where there joints are would be able to switch a body part with some other person.
The first one would cause every person to switch to the other gender except if a female is pregnant. The second one is where somehow the town wakes up and they find that there bodies have where when they are hit tripped or some other reason separate and that people can end up with other people's body parts. For an example Bart and Lisa run into each other and were in a hurry and when they pulled there bodies together we see that Bart now has Lisa's body below the waist .
