"Dad! Dad! Wake up!" said Cody, shaking David roughly.
David turned over on the floor. "Five more minutes please" he groaned.
Cody frowned. "Stop being tired" he commanded.
Immediately, all tiredness left David and he sat right up. "That was weird" he said "Uh - what's the matter Cody?"
"Ok, so last night there was this huge choir of angels and I became God and gained unlimited power and basically I control the universe now and forever!" said Cody excitedly.
"Uh - ok" replied David, not believing a word Cody was saying.
Cody was already moving on to wake up Adam, and David was surprised Ben wasn't already awake with all the noise Cody was making.
As Adam had a very similar, disbelieving reaction, David stood up. "Alright, uh, new God, I guess I'd better make us some breakfast so you can power up for school and won't be hurt too much when they punch you today."
Cody rolled his eyes. "No, dad, I'll get us some breakfast! I'm God now after all." And with a flourish, a delicious banquet suddenly appeared stacked on the kitchen table.
"Oh my God - bacon and eggs!?" said Ben, suddenly sitting up "I haven't had those since mum died!"
"French toast!" cheered Adam "My absolute favorite!"
"A sweet bowl of plain rolled oats with a tiny pinch of brown sugar!" said David, who for some reason loved that particular breakfast "How ... how did you do that? We can't afford this kind of breakfast food."
"All food belongs to me, since I'm God" explained Cody "Eat all you want, as all those plates will refill themselves anyway as you eat them!"
Cody watched with satisfaction as his father and two brothers hungrily devoured their food. As they did so, the magical food healed them of all their injuries from the previous day. Soon he joined them, eating some of his never-ending supply of candy.
"This is so good!" said Ben with his mouth full.
"It's like Christmas come early" affirmed David.
After they had all eaten a complete breakfast, Cody waved his hands again and all the food disappeared.
"Now, it's time to get dressed" he said with a smile "So, David, how about a new suit for the office."
"But I can't afford a suit" replied David "I usually just wear a nice shirt and whatever trousers I can find."
"After all our family has been through, I think you deserve something nice" said Cody.
Suddenly, David's nightgown morphed into a custom-tailored formal business suit with a stunning red tie. Immediately he felt washed, smelled fresh and looked like a million bucks.
"Wow! This is incredible!" he cheered.
"And for us" said Cody to his brothers "Let's have some new school uniforms that aren't tattered old hand-me-downs!"
Just then, the three boys found their clothes switched with brand new uniforms, which were a huge improvement on what they had before. Likewise, Adam and Ben found themselves feeling refreshed, washed and ready for the day. Even Ben's messy hair was combed.
"Wow!"
"You're amazing bro!"
The entire family hugged. David couldn't believe it - it seemed finally, his family's bad luck had turned around.
"Wow, look at the time!" said David, noticing his microwave clock "We'd better get going if we don't want to be late. All the congestion lately is super annoying."
"Oh, I can fix that" said Cody, and with another small flourish, the clock rewound itself. The rest of the family watched in awe as the sun went down a little more in the sky. "Now, we should probably also get a new house."
"You mean we won't have to share a bed anymore?" said Ben.
"Yeah - you're finally getting your own bed" confirmed Cody.
Ben's eyes watered. "You're the best" was all he could say, before bursting into a torrent of tears.
In an instant, the caravan disappeared from the park. Outside, on the steps of a gypsy caravan, an old woman smoked a pipe and smiled knowingly.
Meanwhile, in an affluent neighborhood near the school, where Will and Katie both also lived, two huge mansions moved aside to make way for a new, enormous mansion that grew out of the ground. Gardens reshaped themselves to accommodate the new property, which despite the wealth of the area, immediately put all the other houses to shame with its grandiose opulence.
"Welcome to our new home!" said Cody as the four appeared in the atrium of the giant property, staring at a giant sculpture and water feature worthy of the finest craftspeople.
After David, Alex and Ben were done marveling with their jaws close to the floor, all three went running around exploring like little ants. David felt like a kid again, discovering magnificent room after magnificent room, all furnished with the finest chattels available anywhere on Earth. It was unlike anything he had ever seen - even in his wildest imaginings had he ever contemplated such decadence. Clearly, God had spared no expense in ensuring his family would live in luxury, and David shuddered to think of how many billions this property was worth. Even the beautiful suburb out of the window seemed like a slum in comparison to how marvelous this place was.
"Weeee!" squealed Ben as he flew from an epic indoor slide into a giant ball pit.
"This is amazing" said Adam from out of a virtual reality chamber.
"Incredible!" said Ben as he hit a strike on the indoor bowling alley.
"Best house ever!" said Adam as he swum through a lake of solid gold in the treasure room.
Once they all had a chance to explore their new home, all three made their ways back to the atrium and threw themselves at Cody's feet, worshiping him.
"Aw come on, get up" chuckled Cody "You're my family. This isn't even the least I can do - I still have so many blessings that I need to give you all!"
Everyone in his family did so, but Cody saw they were crying - not tears of sadness, but tears of joy. David was so proud of his young son, becoming God and acting so kindly towards them, even though all he had ever known were the strong bullying the weak. At last, it seemed, the fortunes of his family had turned around.
Then, David's mind wandered to his deceased wife. It was strange, in a way, to see this fortune return, when he was so sure it was a curse brought about by his wife's absence from his life. He made a mental note to pay her grave site a visit later in the day to tell her of what happened.
