Raenok, Akakio, Mayat, Peltan, and a young recruit that the men had "affectionately" nicknamed "Thumb" all approached the tent of their commander. All of them were a bit intimidated, due to the sheer height of such a monumental man. Nicknamed, the "Giant Killer", their commander had killed more giants then most of the armies had. He was one of the only humans that the giants referred to by his true name: Heron.
The tent door opened and a seven foot giant stepped out of the tent, a full suit of black armor adorning his body. Commander Heron handed a few more pieces of paper to the messenger who had brought them, and the messenger tore off like their was no tomorrow.
"Ah, excellent!! You have all arrived. I have a special assignment for the five of you. Word has it that. . "
Peltan stepped forward, his hand stretched towards their commander, a solemn expression on his face. He moved slowly and timidly towards the commander to get his attention.
"Uhhh. . sir, uhh. . Commander, sir!! I mean no disrespect but. . I am not the strongest or the. . well. . .fastest of the army. If we are doing. . what I think we are doing. . .maybe it would be best. . . for a younger and . . faster recruit to . . ."
Before Peltan could finish, Commander Heron rushed at Peltan and took his large greatsword off of his back. Using the blunt side of it, he slammed it as hard as he could into Peltan's chest. Peltan reactively reached out with it, his armored hands not stopping the force, but keeping the commander from pulling his weapon back towards himself. Raenok was stunned. Peltan had taken that blow head on and . . he hadn't even flinched!!
"That . . .is why you are going on this mission, Peltan. Your stamina is like no one else in the army. I doubt even a giant's foot could crush you."
Pulling his greatsword back, Commander Heron patted Peltan like a small boy pets a dog. Peltan backed up and let the commander continue.
"I have heard rumors of a giantess that is taller than the rest. She is some kind of magic user with great powers. No one knows what she looks like or what her name is, but the rumor amongst the giants is she is known as the "Bringer of Peace". An interesting title, considering we suspect she is the one who started this war in the first place."
Thumb took a step forward.
"Uhh.. . commander, I have heard rumors among the camps that you are leaving a sub commander in place of the army at this village and returning to the main castle. Is this true? You know that our village has no chance of survi. . "
Commander Heron slammed his sword into the ground. Several other soldiers stopped their preparations and turned towards the large imposing man.
"I AM AWARE OF THE SITUATION!!!" Commander Heron belted out like an angry sailor.
"We are indeed withdrawing to a more fortified situation but, we are doing this in an attempt to pull the giants away from the town. Now, listen and no more interruptions. We are sending you all in to find this leader giantess and destroy her. Once you accomplish this task, the giants will be leaderless and defenseless against us. This mission will determine the fate of mankind!! I know, that you can do this!!"
"But. . its our last mission, isn't it, Commander."
Akakio brushed his hair back a little bit.
"Once the leader is dead. . we are gonna get swarmed. There won't be a rescue, either."
For the first time, the commander was quiet.
"It. . will be . . unlikely that you may all return, but not impossible."
The five all got quiet at this. They all didn't like this idea.
