Giggles bubble up instantly. Only this time, it’s not just a few dozen, it’s hundreds, all swarming your feet and moving up your ankles. The sensation is electric. You can’t believe this is happening, and yet, as the tiny ants march determinedly up your shins and calves, it doesn’t matter. You’re trapped and being swarmed by a colony of ants whose only goal is to tickle you. You raise one foot on tiptoe to allow the tickling to move to your newly revealed sensitive sole. The swarm obliges. You nearly drop your heel as your giggling gains a hysterical edge, but you endure, willingly submitting yourself to the intense tickling. Besides, you don’t want to accidentally smash any of your new friends. If only the floor was just a little bit lower …
As if reading your mind, the swarm sends out a thicker stream of workers, meticulously excavating the dirt under you and forcing both feet to balance on your toes and exposing both of your soft soles to the relentless tickling horde. As the hundreds become thousands, the soldiers find their way to the backs of your knees. And as if to add insult to injury, the workers exploring your soles decide to offer you an additional service. They begin cleaning the dirt off. Some dig with their front legs like dogs, others use their tiny mandibles to delicately scrape the soil from your skin. You throw your head back and let out peels of unrestrained laughter. Through it all, you hold your feet perfectly still, relishing the torment.
